ISSUE

How to create a shortcut to open a URL with a specific Internet browser.

ENVIRONMENT

Windows 7
Internet Explorer
Firefox
Chrome

RESOLUTION

This process can be used to open a URL in Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome regardless of the default browser.

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Programs
  3. Click-and-drag [Browser Icon] to the desktop
  4. Right-click the new shortcut and select Properties
  5. On the Shortcut tab, click the Target field and move the cursor to the end of the text
  6. Insert a single space and then type the URL



  7. Click Apply
  8. Click the General tab
  9. In the text field at the top, give the shortcut an appropriate name
  10. Click OK
